This piece is an example of the raw and playful attributes of affection, expression, and the many forms love takes. The centered figures are my husband, and I surrounded by a complex design of the flower of life, cropped by the sacred space and making eye contact and interacting with the audience. The smirk on my face shows a level of tolerance only provided to someone I truly adore. This is inviting others into a vulnerable state and shows a genuine interaction of love and comfort. On my necklace is a message of love from my grandmother, a gift she gave me before moving out of Colorado to Arizona. This is the first of a five series painting I am working on, all self-portraits with significant people in my life at significant times in my life. My husband has been my biggest supporter for the past twelve years, and I love sharing moments of us like this when we are being ourselves.
